MANELY LOVE MONDAY! Dec. 29, 2014

Volume 50: Reflection, Good Vibes & Gratitude

Yo! Tis the last week of 2014. Last Monday of 2014 – Another year in our rear view. Let’s take a second and just say ‘Thank You’…did it? 🙂 Ok, moving forward…

I started posting each Monday at the start of this year, you know, for buzz, awareness, good vibes, etc. with regard to Manely Love. 50 posts – hair tips, personal experiences, short stories, reactions to popular issues, client updates, Look Book updates, pictures, my words, my humor 😛 – my way to connect. Endless thank yous to everybody who takes the time to read my words, engage in the topics, and send their blessings. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. You have to believe in yourself, that’s a given. Without self love and encouragement, your goals will not take off. But, when others believe in you too, it’s like an energy boost! You have people waiting for you to succeed and there’s life in that.

New Years Eve is upon us and however you choose to spend it – make sure to look good doing it! I’m available for appointments this week: Tuesday 11 am – 5 pm; Friday 1p – 4 pm; Saturday 9 am – 12 pm and Sunday 3 pm – 5 pm

The New Year is upon us! Let’s make 2015 a good one. I’m excited to engage with you good people in the year to come. I’m excited to gain more knowledge and experience, meet new clients and continue to grow not only as a hair stylist but as a person as well. Let’s do it!

Peace!

Volume 49: Verified

Yo! I hope that I’ve found you well. I’ll hop right to it — last weekend, I went to Paul Mitchell to visit/tour with Admissions. It was great. A couple posts ago, I voiced my concerns about their program and all of those concerns were debunked. It’s like they knew all of my questions before I could even ask them. I dare say that it was magical 😛. Something about this school just makes sense for me. As I listened to them speak on the advantages and opportunities of having an education from this school, it was clear that they aren’t just a name. This is my second time going through the admissions process and touring the school, 2 years later, verifies that this is the best choice.

I also had an intense moment of thankfulness once I learned that their part-time program now begins at 5:30 pm! When I applied the first time around, class began at 5:00 pm and I was seriously concerned with how I would make that work being that I still need to be able to work. An intense wave of relief and gratitude is an understatement yall. All I could think was ‘Thank you’. One last piece that stood out for me was when Isabella (my Admissions guide) pointed out that because they are located on a college campus, I’d have the opportunity to work with a variety of hair textures and diverse clientele. I think that might be one of the most important factors for me. One of the main themes of my salon is that Manely Love is a space/place where woman of all colors and backgrounds can fellowship, feel comfortable in the stylist’s chair and most importantly feel comfortable with each other. Good Vibes Only! 🙂 .

All good things, good people. Peace!

I’m available for appointments this week: Tuesday 3 pm – 7:30 pm; Wednesday 12 – 3 pm and Saturday 9 am – 3 pm.

Volume 48: Oh hell no…This is a thing? O_o

So it has recently come to my attention that some stylists have completely lost their minds! I was skimming through my good ole’ Twitter timeline and I saw some discussing experiences where stylists ‘sneak’ relaxers into their natural client’s hair under the “deep conditioning” act, during the wash. O_o I also saw the topic on Facebook, attached to an article, and after reading, I was BLOWN AWAY. As a hair stylist, I could never! and frankly I don’t see how another would. First of all, how bold are you to try a client that way? You are super setting yourself up to catch – the – fade and it would be completely justified. Where is your integrity as a hair stylist? What gives you the right to make this decision ON BEHALF of someone who has made a deliberate decision to have unprocessed hair? Did you wake up one morning and think, “Today’s the day, I’d like to get slapped”?

Ok, I get it, natural hair presents some challenges that processed/relaxed hair does not but that’s where it ends. Alright, not every stylist knows every curl pattern and in that vein, I do agree that it’s okay for the client to ask their stylist how they should prep their hair pre-appointment or for the stylist to inquire. ANY conversation about preparation is preferred to the definite physical altercation that will result from this huge over step.

I have a few natural hair clients and I know what to expect and I know my limits. The state at which a person decides to keep THEIR hair is their decision/their business. If/when it becomes your business via hair appointment, they deserve to be treated with respect and not ambushed with a perm during the their wash…duh. Good lord.

Until next time good people. I have an amazing Paul Mitchell update. I am available for appointments this week: Wednesday 6:30p; Saturday 9am-6pm and Sunday 3:30-8:00pm.

Peace!

Volume 47: Or so I thought!/Touch of Red

This week is a two-parter yall (if my obvious two part title didn’t give that 😛 ). First, I have a beauty school journey update. With deciding which school is best, there are a list of factors that are important for me to consider: location, price, part-time school hours(because I still need to work), experience as a student, good vibes and stuff like that, ya know? So as you all know, Paul Mitchell’s school is my heart. My first love. My A-1 selection. But I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t doing myself a disservice by not considering other schools, so I did. Last Thursday, I attended an Open House/Demo event at Tricoci University of Beauty Culture. While the presentation proved that it’s a good program, something in me didn’t click with this choice. Not only that, I found that their part time program happens during the day oppose to class beginning after work hours. I thought that was interesting…despite my effort to entertain another choice of school, I was still pushed toward my first choice. Is it Fate???? God I hope so…I have an appointment to visit Paul Mitchell (again) this week. Details forthcoming… I will say that during my time at Tricoci, there were some points about Paul Mitchell that I’ll need to address once I’m there. The presenters talked about my first love, being just a name (was this the shade?). But what about the experience of the students, connections, investment?…somebody’s got some explaining to do…😛. Everyone has their own perspectives and that one presenter’s experience doesn’t have to be mine…the journey continues.

Red Head in the making.

Red Head in the making.

Second, Look at my hair! A touch of red seemed necessary…I’ll be going completely red soon. My dye is semi-permanent because I’m relaxed but I love it!

That is all I have for now – until next time. I am available for appointments this week: Tuesday-Thursday 6:30p; Saturday 9am-6pm and Sunday 3:30-7:00p.

Peace!

Volume 46: Tis the Season

Hey yall hey! So fitting that December 1st fell on a Monday – that just screams order for me. Today’s post is slight. With 30 days left in 2014 ( O_o because time waits for no man), I think it’s about time for us to start preparing for 2015. 30 days to close some doors, 30 days to make new year goals, 30 days to Thank God that you made it through another year. You do, however, only have about 22 days to figure out your Christmas Holiday hair and only about 28 days to figure out your NYE hair! It is a MUST that you bring in 2015 flawlessly from your head to your toes. I am here to assist.  🙂

That is all I have for now – until next time. I am available for appointments this week: Tuesday-Thursday 6:30p; Saturday 9am-6pm and Sunday 3:30-7:00p.

Peace!
