Volume 61: Tighten Up!
Hey! I hope this post has found you well. I’m smooth going to act like it didn’t snow today and I encourage you all to do the same 😛 . Guess what though, Janessa’s back! Fall into her words regarding your natural hair routine with a bit of love on the side. Take it away Ness!
❤ Hello again, my Manely Love-buckets!
I was so excited that Sarah asked me to come back this month and write another post. The weather is changing, the spring has sprung, and I know we’re all getting antsy to flounce around our respective cities and feel the sun on our faces. While spring time comes with all types of spontaneous activity, I have found that having a fallback routine is how I successfully get through the busiest times of the year, especially with my hair.
Conditioning has always been essential due to the fragility of my strands. I deep condition twice a week, wash every 10 days, and start every morning with a thorough spritz of conditioned water. My fro meets the comb about every six weeks – and quite frankly, I’m considering extending that deadline. You see, a hair routine keeps panic and drama low. At any point in time, I know exactly what my hair needs or how it’s feeling. Yes, yes, my hair has feelings. Too much water and its sticking too close to my head – all shy like. Too much heavy conditioning and it feels like a jerry curl and everything is way too 80s. Not enough moisture and we’re just talking sad, distressed, frizz city. My routine is what keeps my mornings simple and most of my evenings free for fun and relaxation.
I encourage everyone to solidify their routine now that spring is here. This can apply to your hair, your gym or sleep schedules, finances or otherwise. I’m a true believer that life will happen as it may, but there’s nothing wrong with being a woman or man with a plan. Don’t get caught slipping. If a cutie asks you to come sit on a patio and enjoy the sunshine, you’ll need to be ready at the spur of the moment. Your routines will help you have the coif, confidence, and spare cash you need to open the door when life comes knocking.
Routines are a reflection of maturity, common sense, and a desire to truly take care of yourself. If you can, schedule two or three hair appointments at a time so you can mark them in your calendar. Routine trims, coloring, perms, and touch-ups WILL help you prevent hair emergencies. Start putting away a certain amount of those pay checks each month for some summer fun. Hit those squats, push-ups, and sit-ups at the same time every day. Make sure you’re hitting your marks for your daily water intake!
In a few weeks, we’ll all be on our way to happier, stronger and sunnier lifestyles. The proactive work you put into your routine has a major flip-side. It frees up time and energy where you otherwise might be scrambling, broke, or (heaven’s forbid) looking crazy. Go forth and prosper good people. With our spring habits intact, we’ll have reached a new level of super stardom by summer.
Until next time,
Love. Peace. And scheduled hair grease!
