Volume 64: Your Best Foot
Mondays are weird………*insert deep breath – inhale fully and exhale completely*……ok moving forward. I missed you all last week – I hope you were well then and I hope that you are well now. 🙂 In light of my pending Paul Mitchell enrollment, I’ve been communicating potential start dates, program length, etc. Interestingly enough, when I mention that I’ll be starting school in the fall to gain a cosmetology license, I get a variety of responses ranging from excitement to confusion. I am highly familiar with both.
Like mentioned many times before, I have known that I wanted to be a hair stylist since I was about 8 years old. This is my purpose – these hands were made for styling heads and cultivating beauty. ❤ Once I graduated high school and decided to attend a university, I was told many, many times that hair stylists don’t necessarily NEED a college degree. Which is true – I have no doubt that I could have went straight to cosmetology school from high school, got my license & currently work -rather successfully- as a full time stylist. However, when approached with the confusion regarding ‘waiting so long’ to get a license – my reply is that I want to own the salon I work in (more than one, Lordt willing).
My Business Management, Entrepreneurial degree taught me how to own a business. Unfortunately, many stylists seek to own/own their salon without knowing the fundamentals of running a business. My education is INVALUABLE and frankly, I feel equipped. Attending a university to learn those fundamentals is on my “Steps to Manely Love by Sarah D.” list. This was a personal decision and a wonderful achievement. I always mention that want to make myself as marketable as possible.
So, I suppose the moral to this post is that ‘if you have a plan – stick to it! Stick to your personal timeline and remember that ‘suppose to’ is a myth. Success is not a race. Outline the appropriate steps needed in order to achieve your personal goals and execute! The reward will be that much prettier in the end. I love you all.
I am available for appointments this week: Tuesday 6:30pm,Thursday 7:30pm (Scandal Thursday! So wine is a must), Saturday, 10am-1pm & Sunday 3pm.
